What is Google My Business?
As discussed in the previous article, regarding what a Google Business Profile is, this article will discuss how to create a Google Business Profile account and how to optimize it. Apart from that, how to verify an account on GMB will also be explained after the GMB account is created.
The following are the steps:
Step 1: Sign up for Google My Business
1. Go to Google Business Profile
• Open the official Google Business Profile page on Google Business
• Click the “Manage Now” button
2. Enter your business name
• Type your business name in the column provided.
• If your business isn’t already on Google, click “Add your business to Google.”
• If your business already exists, select it from the list that appears.
3. Select Business Category
• Choose the category that best suits your business (for example: “Restaurants”, “Clothing Stores”, “Digital Services”).
• This category choice is important because it will help Google show your business to relevant potential customers.
4. Add Business Location (Optional)
• If your business has a physical location (store, restaurant, office), select “Yes,” then enter the complete address.
• If your business is service-based (e.g. digital services or freelancers) without a fixed location, select “No”.
5. Add Contact Information
• Enter the business phone number and website (if applicable).
• This information helps customers contact you easily.
6. Complete Registration
• Click “Continue” to save the information you have entered.
• Now, you will be directed to the business verification step.
Step 2: Verify Google My Business
Google needs to verify that you are the legal owner of the business before your business profile can appear on Google. There are several verification methods:
1. Verify with Postcard (General Method)
• Google will send a verification code to the business address within 5–14 business days.
• After receiving the postcard, log in to your Google Business Profile account and enter the verification code.
2. Verify by Phone or Email (If Available)
• For some businesses, Google provides verification options by phone or email.
• If available, you will receive a verification code directly via SMS or registered email.
3. Instant Verification (If You Already Have Google Search Console)
• If you already have a verified business in Google Search Console, you may be eligible for instant verification without the need for a postcard.
Step 3: Optimize Your Business Profile
Once your business is verified, the next step is to optimize your Google My Business profile to make it more attractive and easy for customers to find:
-Add Photos and Logo: Upload high-quality photos of your business.
-Write a Clear Business Description: Explain the product/service you offer.
-Add Hours of Operation: Make sure customers know when your business is open.
-Activate Chat Feature: Makes it easier for customers to contact you directly from Google.
-Ask for Reviews from Customers: Positive reviews increase the credibility of your business.
Registering and verifying Google My Business is very important to increase business visibility, attract customers and build credibility.
